JVP Member under TMVP attack

(May 06, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A group of JVP supporters who were engaged in election propaganda work at Thirukkovil area in Ampara district were an attacked by a group of armed supporters of Pillayan group at about 3.00 p.m. yesterday (5th).

R. Sundaram who was among the supporters of the JVP who were attacked was severely beaten up by the Pillayan supporters had to be admitted to Ampare Hospital.

However, according to the Government, “the entry of former armed groups into the democratic mainstream should be viewed as a catalyst rather than a threat”.

Thus the May 10 poll was an opportunity for the Eastern polity to show their appreciation and unite under "Mahinda Chinthana" to propel the East forward, Deshapriya who is a Ampara Mayor said adding that a UPFA victory would be another step towards regaining the former glory of the East.
