Don’t help Lanka: Vaiko

(May 06, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) MDMK general secretary Mr Vaiko on Monday dashed off a letter to the Prime Minister expressing his concern about a report saying that India will assist Sri Lanka financially with approximately Rs 400 crores as loan to buy arms to fight the LTTE. Quoting a media report stating that India is finalizing Rs 400 crores soft loan to Sri Lanka to buy arms, Mr Vaiko said that he was terribly shocked to hear the news and the same was against the assurance given by Mr Manmohan Singh to him on April 21.

Reiterating his earlier stance that the Sri Lankan government is perpetrating the crime of genocide against the Tamils in the island, Mr Vaiko said, “Genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka was exposed to the International Community, when the Government of Sri Lanka arrogantly refused permission to the United Nation Organisation (UNO) to open their office in Colombo and also denied permission for the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Madam Louis Arbour, to visit the affected Tamil areas in the North.”

“The argument of the Ministry of External Affairs that India has to strengthen the bilateral relations with Sri Lanka to neutralise the role played by Pakistan and China is unjustifiable, unreasonable and nothing but a treacherous design to help the diabolical military attacks of the Government of Sri Lanka to decimate the Tamil race,” said the MDMK supremo in the letter. Accusing the Indian Government of helping the Lankan government, Mr Vaiko appealed to the Prime Minister to honour his earlier assurance that he will not help the Lankan government buy arms and ammunition to kill Tamils.
