(April 22, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) It is an acknowledged fact that , scarcely a day passes without the Media highlighting the corruption, inefficiency, lethargy, wastages and drug shortages afflicting the Health Ministry.

Recently, even Doctors pinpointed that the intensive care units of the Hospitals are lacking facilities whereby the lives of patients are put in grave danger. Indeed, some are dying. They alleged.

Again, amidst other shortcomings like alleged irregularities and frauds, the Hospitals ran short of drugs, again, putting the lives of patients in peril that waited in queues, by being turned back without drugs.

The latest scourge is the dispute raging on the generics vs. Brand in respect of drugs dispensed. While the Ministry is still to solve the dispute, it is again, the patients who are at the receiving end of this problem. They are left to the mercy of unqualified pharmacists and sub standard drugs!
