The minorities have suffered enough!

"The world is fast changing, but Sri Lanka is rapidly decaying. The changing world is accepting and accommodating the minorities as part of their nation’s society and embracing them as people in an accommodative way. Sri Lanka which is a tiny drop in the world map is still talking about prejudicial politics to alienate and marginalize the minorities"

  • It is time the Sinhala people must show their magnanimity
  • ____________

What has really gone wrong with Sri Lanka? A nation that practices high religious values is heading towards irredeemable decay. A nation that solely believed in majority rule has alienated the minorities and this has caused far reaching collateral consequences for the masses of the country.

In Sri Lanka companionate Buddhism has turned to confrontational one. Hinduism practiced by majority Tamils have to live with eternal violence as their way of life. Islamism has become submissive to the will of violence. For Christians daily deaths have only left them with the hope that the dead will be resurrected one day.

The world is fast changing, but Sri Lanka is rapidly decaying. The changing world is accepting and accommodating the minorities as part of their nation’s society and embracing them as people in an accommodative way. Sri Lanka which is a tiny drop in the world map is still talking about prejudicial politics to alienate and marginalize the minorities.

Lessons that could be learnt from the accommodative wider world have no meaning in Sri Lanka. Imperialism and communism have become historical past and the counties that spearheaded these missions have moved away and are moving away to become inclusive societies in this accommodative world. Unfortunately, in Sri Lanka there are Somavanse’s, Weerawanse’s and extremist religious bigots who are able to thrive on these defunct words to outburst to sustain their survival.

Sixty years of independence and thirty years of war has brought only anarchy to the country. The people are loosing their willpower and the progressively deteriorating Sri Lanka has become the hotbed to produce degenerated lots of politicians who lacks the political will or charisma to transform the country into an inclusive society. These politicians thrive on the progressive decay and contribute further to compound it to bring the country to an anarchic state.

In Sri Lanka, the political notions like federalism, regional devolution, empowering minorities, unity in diversity etc are anathema when other countries have proved that they could co-habit with the minorities with such arrangements.

Tamil terrorism is the manifestation of the unwilling majority Sinhalese rule to accommodate the minorities with open heart and dignity. Unfortunately, the Sinhala mindset is yet to change significantly to accommodate the minorities magnanimously with due respect and provision of power sharing to manage themselves within the island nation of Sri Lanka.

The day majority Sinhalese show their thumbs down to extremism of the JHU and JVP likes will be the day Sri Lanka will emerge as a nation that could survive in the fast progressing global village. Extremism of the Sinhala nationalism has lost many values for Sri Lanka and only has bread hate, violence, racism, terror, vituperation and nonsense without realizing this meaningless nationalism has brought upon all the ills to the country.

The Sri Lankan nation is bleeding, the country is rotting, people are struggling, corruption is spiraling, persons of unacceptable credentials are being elected as our leaders and commission Kakka’s are thriving like vultures scavenging the dead carcass and the ordinary Appuhamy, Kandasamy, Marcus and Mustafa are yearning for real peace in Sri Lanka.

The Gods of all religions in Sri Lanka have forgotten Sri Lanka. It is not the prayers in the Pansala, Kovils, Mosques and the Churches that will bring peace, it is in the hands of the Sinhala people to put the right ticks in the ballot boxes to produce able leaders to rule the country in an accommodative way. If this happens, there will be a way to say bye-bye to terrorism that is plaguing this country for too long.
