Fraud of Rs.80 million in Education Ministry

Mr. Minister! Are You Playing With Our Children?

(March 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Education Minister who promised to provide schools for all children before the year 2007 is out, has still not fulfilled his promise even after the New Year 2008 is fast becoming old (nearly three months gone!) with over 10, 000 children without School admissions roaming the streets with their parents staging demonstrations wasting their precious time which should have been utilized in studies

The latest exposure of the Education Ministry muddle is the purchase of sub standard computers for Schools worth Rs. 80 million which were earlier rejected and languishing in the Education Ministry stores for more than a year! Now, the Ministry has purchased these discarded computers even violating tender procedures blatantly. The supplier who should have been fined 10 % of the loss has also been given a concession reducing it to 5%!

Is this in keeping with the policy of this Govt. which always shows mercy only on the culprits, encouraging them to more crimes, and persecuting the people whose money it is recklessly and ruthlessly allowing to go down the drain?
