“The hypocritical JVP, of course is using its double face to full advantage”- UNP

(February 14, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) "The Rajapakse Government is planning only to prosper itself and its largest cabinet while plotting at every turn against the 21 million people looking for ways and means to grab even the people’s plate of rice," a member of United National Party , a main opposition in Sri Lanka and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanyake said at the press conference on this morning (14 Feb.) in Colombo.

Although it is the people who elected it to power, the Rajapakse regime is using all that power to crush and cripple the very people by imposing taxes, price hikes, duties and hardships. Although the Government has made the war a handy excuse, it is a plain truth that it is the Govt.’s corruption, wasteful expenditures on Jumbo tours and fiscal bungling that have driven the country to this sorry mess. Govt. is only fighting a so called war, but, people are facing two wars –the war against starvation at home and the war outside, with themselves becoming a victim any time on a bomb explosion or carnage.

The hypocritical JVP, of course is using its double face to full advantage: using one face and getting all its self serving benefits from the Govt. while also carrying some cardboard pieces and shouting hoarse against the Govt. on the roads duping its disappointed voters.

Although all the Ministers of the Govt. are forced to cheat on the people because the Govt. is totally bankrupt of solutions, there are two Duffers of Ministers who have specialized in bluffing and bamboozling the masses. First in the list is the Minister of consumer affair , Bandula Gunawardena ,better known locally and world wide as Minister of consumer despair who is also a strong contender vying to beat John Graham, officially recognized winner of the greatest liar in the World title.

Next, is Minister of petroleum, Fowzie, whose portfolio derives life from lying and deceit. Even as he says that he will not raise the price of fuel again, there are price hikes on the same product by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) under his Ministry. There will be no price hikes on Kerosene as this is a poor man’s commodity says he, but, simultaneously a 28% increase on the same commodity is introduced. When people agitate, he says, this has happened without his knowledge.

So, these jokers (Ministers) are providing comic relief when people are starving and clamouring for genuine relief, he quipped.
