(February 10, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Valentine’s Day falls on the 14 February 2008. To coincide with the forthcoming lover’s day, two extreme mindsets have decided to have ‘heart to heart’ talks and serialise it in the Asian Tribune web journal.

The infamous Asian Tribune editor K T Rajasingam who is known for his reprehensible dealings decided to engage in talks with the leader of the JVP Somawanse Amarasinghe. The interview touched on many issues. One must thank K T Rajasingam for giving an opening with his ‘heart to heart’ chat which nakedly exposed the disparaging leader of the JVP. The discussion revealed the hidden poison stored in the JVP and most of the ‘heart to heart’ engagement exposed the nonsensical political mindset of the JVP and its leader.

The interesting and hilarious comment made by Somawanse Amerasinghe was when he asserted that greater ‘assimilation’ of Sinhalese and Tamil have to take place to eliminate the inter racial tensions in Sri Lanka.

Assimilation is taking place all over the world between people where there are no barriers to engage. Assimilation is a natural process and it takes place when people relate to each other ‘heart to heart’ as part of their daily lives.

Many Sri Lankans who have migrated to other countries have assimilated and are assimilating with host of communities and marriages have taken place crossing the racial and religious divides. It is no secret that Sri Lankans are married to Russians, Polish, English, Irish, Punjabi’s, Morocan’s, Pakistani’s, Gujarati’s, American’s, German’s, French, Italians, Finish etc, etc. Unfortunately the scale of assimilation taking place in the world is not reflected in Sri Lanka.

Very few marriages between communities have taken place in Sri Lanka since its independence sixty years ago. Somawanse Amerasinghe even struggled to identify a marriage between a Sinhalse and a Tamil in Batticaloa and appeared thrilled that it had taken place in some corner of Sri Lanka. He could not think beyond this isolated marriage and give a wider political analysis on the reality facing Sri Lanka. He proved in interview that he is a hoodwink, deceiving his own people with his poisonous cocktail.

The editor of Asian Tribune too did not pin down Amerasinghe on this. Will Amerasinghe and the JVP respond to two serious realities about greater assimilation in Sri Lanka?

How many JVP members or their children have married to Tamils, Muslims or Burghers officially to implement their policy on assimilation? Will they make it a policy that all members must marry someone from the minority communities? Will he confirm that the JVP is prepared to marry their counterparts the LTTE cadres even the suicide cadres as they too are Tamils?

Will JVP agree that their counterpart, the LTTE, is more prone to assimilation and without any fuss extend greater assimilation with the Sinhalese community? The living example for this is the LTTE political head Nadesan. He is married to a Sinhalese and happily living in Vanni as husband and wife and both are subscribing to the claim of separate state Tamil Eelam.

There are whole host of LTTE activists married to Sinhalese like Jayantha Gnanakone and Perinpan Sundaralingam in the Diaspora. In what way this has changed the attitude of the people even after small scale assimilation?

The Sinhala people must be told about the ridiculous stand of the JVP and the independent Sinhala media must expose the shenanigan into order for Sinhala masses understand the heinous JVP.
