Arrested LTTE Cadres in Chennai Reveals More

(January 21, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) In a follow-up to the arrest of eight LTTE cadres including Nathan alias Suruli in Tamilnadu, the sleuths of State Intelligence wing have filed a petition at Alandur court today seeking one week police custody for interrogating the arrested.

And the petition is likely to be taken up for hearing on Tuesday.

It may be noted that Thambidurai Parameswaran who had been working with LTTE’s intelligence section infiltrated into India via Rameswaram last February and later moved to Chennai.

Thambidurai along with other cadres—Joseph, Alandin Regan, Kesavan, Ganesh Anand, Aravindan, Kusalaraj, Paris Raj, Suthanan, Akilan alias Padmaraj was living in a rented house in suburban Madipakkam.

Reports stated that Thambidurai owned a costly car and was moving around as if he was working as a driver for a travel company.

Police said that the cadres were engaged in purchasing iron balls, plastic raw materials, two-wheelers, spares for motor boats among others here which were to be smuggled to LTTE strongholds in Jaffna.

In this exercise, Thambidurai had arranged boatmen in Puducherry and Rameswaram for smuggling the items to Lanka.

Moreover, he was engaged in gathering information regarding the movements of Varadaraja Perumal, Lankan Minister Douglas Devanand and his assistant Yogaraj.

Acting on a tip-off, the State Intelligence wing police arrested eight LTTE cadres in suburban Madipakkam on 16 January.

Interrogations revealed that the key accused Thambidurai Parameswaran had come out of the LTTE intelligence section and made his way into India.

However, the top LTTE cadres in Jaffna had threatened that they would kill his wife and mother if he failed to supply the required items from India.He confessed that he had to work for them out of fear.

Further interrogations revealed the conspiracy of LTTE to do away with EPRLF leader Varadaraja Perumal during the marriage of his son in Delhi next month.

Besides arresting the eight LTTE cadres, the police seized the car used by Thambidurai Parameswaran and the items to be smuggled to Lanka.

All the eight arrested men were kept in judicial custody.In this scenario, the intelligence wing police moved the court seeking police custoday of the arrested LTTE cadres.

Meanwhile, police arrested Dilipan in Madurai and Selvaraj was taken into custody in Chennai in connection with helping the LTTE cadres in the purchase of iron balls.
