Commander of the Navy’s official visit to UK strengthens the ties of the two navies and the two nations –Navy

(December, 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Wasantha karannagoda, who paid an official visit to the United Kingdom recently, had brought out many aftermath results of effective heralding signs that further strengthened longstanding friendships of the two navies and the two nations, according to official in Sri Lanka Navy.

Vice admiral wasantha karannagoda met the Chief of the Naval Staff of the Royal Navy of the Great Britain, the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Jonathan Band KCB ADC at the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth situated in Devon in England on 13th December 2007, the sources said.

“Admiral Sir Jonathan Band visited Sri Lanka in June in 2006 on an invitation extended by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy”, the sources also added.

According to Navy officials, “President, Mahinda Rajapakshe participated as the chief guest of the passing out parade of his second son Yoshitha Rajapakshe who underwent training for one year and passed out, in which the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy too participated as a special guest.”

“The Britannia Royal Naval College had been established in 1863 at Dartmouth of Devon with so much renowned naval customs and traditions which are still followed in many of the Commonwealth Navies,” he noted.
