LTTE starting Tamil traders association in the UK

(November, 23, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) At a meeting held in East Ham (London) last week attended by the LTTE activists, it was decided to form a traders association for the Tamil businesses in the United Kingdom. The meeting was attended by about twenty hardcore LTTE activists.

The meeting presided by the LTTE activist, fund collector and the proprietor of Select Property Services based in East Ham Mr Bose ensured progress was made to formalise the association.
Mr Bose is said to be engaged with the LTTE leadership in Sri Lanka in the last round of major fund raising programme for the final war appeal by the LTTE and said to had given £50,000 when he visited Sri Lanka.

The other notable LTTE activists attending the meeting were proprietor of Tilco Property Services Mr Tilak and Mr Tharmalingam, an accountant based in East Ham. During ceasefire time Tilco Property services undertook extensive investments in properties in Jaffna to run bed and breakfast hotels.

At the meeting, it was decided to form a suitably named limited company to reflect the Tamil traders.

Some of those present insisted wider participation of traders before decisions are made but Mr Bose has insistent that control of the organisation must be within few active members who supports the LTTE cause.

There were also opinion expressed that traders association will be a resourceful setup and funds must be used for the cause in Sri Lanka.

The next meeting will be held on 30 January 2008. It was decided to engage some more pro LTTE traders and formalise membership and annual fee for services provided to the traders of the association.
