Deliver or depart

(November, 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Mr. President, by shielding the 17 corrupt UNP politicos who sought shelter under your Satakaya from prosecution, you have proved that yours is a thoroughly corrupt government.

The No-Confidence motion against Minister Moragoda which seemed assured of success in the House was blatantly blocked by your government’s refusal to take it up in parliament. The ‘Pulle’ can make excuses till he is blue in the face, but they will not be believed or accepted as anything but efforts to cover up corruption.

Are you scared that more such motions will follow? In your anxiety to preserve your wafer-thin majority in the House you think nothing of shielding those with a dubious record.

If you showed the same vigour and enthusiasm in trying to ameliorate the sufferings of the masses, we would not be staggering under the unbearable burdens cast on us in the form of taxes and the skyrocketing cost of living. Do you expect us, as your Trade Minister seems to do, to cut out eating rice, using milk powder, flour and using gas? That seems to be the attitude of your government which made so many extravagant promises in the infamous Chinthanaya, none of which have been adequately fulfilled.

Using the war as your shield you continue to cast more and more burdens on our aching shoulders. Your worthy brother boasted of complete success in the battle field. How then was it possible for a platoon of Tigers to infiltrate an air force camp, and with air support, inflict billions of rupees of damage to aircraft and installations, and kill many servicemen in the process?

Howevermuch the spokesmen may try to bluster their way through, the public is no longer willing to be bamboozled, being well aware that the picture presented is a far cry from reality.
Will there be more taxes to cover the billions required for replacement? Show us, even at this late stage that you are aware of, and have compassion for our sufferings, on account of the inefficiency and shady activities of the horde of ministers, deputies, advisors, etc. you are maintaining to stay on in power. Cut this number by half and it will still be excessive.

We are losing patience and refuse to suffer like this while you and your stooges cavort around and wallow is the lap of luxury at huge expense to us. Do something concrete, soon, or give up and go.

God save Sri Lanka!
