Is Time ripe for politics?

Col. Karuna, once the second in Command in the LTTE, has changed the history of Sri Lanka by his disassociation from the LTTE. He has not only changed the political landscape of the Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese in Sri Lanka but also their political perception. Nothing in history remains invariable and evolution applies to all spectrums of human life, behaviour, culture and religion. Those who know the theory of evolution, do not dispute the changes as they take place in the phase of history irrespective of any discipline. This is the case of the Tamil struggle.

It cannot be ruled out that it is an uphill task for him and his men to learn the values of human rights as they had their roots in the LTTE. Nonetheless, the changes, they created in the East were immense and should be utilised for co-existence as it would bring about a secure environment. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the anti-LTTE parties are in the same vein in rocking the boat in the East where the people have come to terms with their ethnic differences and learned to promote co-existence, without the help of the “so called Tamil leaders.”.

The clock is ticking now for Karuna and other democratic political parties to flex their muscles in an election that will result in peaceful governance in the East. All that is expected of Karuna and the government is whether they can deliver goods to the eastern People who were also victims of oppression by their own Tamil leaders from the North and highhanded Sinhalese political stalwarts with chauvinistic agenda.

When Karuna split from the LTTE he was welcomed by those who were opposed to the LTTE. Nevertheless, when it comes to the question of Tamil home land the schisms appeared in the anti LTTE coalition, and a fine line drawn between those who aspire for Tamil home land the others.
Clock is ticking not for training but for real politics.
